Accent

Definition: Emphasis placed on a particular note or chord, distinguishing it from those surrounding it. This can be achieved through dynamic stress (playing louder) or duration (holding it longer).

The Savvy Take: On the piano, you can’t “swell” a note once you’ve hit it. Your primary tool for accents is velocity (weight). Drop your arm weight into the key for a deep, rich accent rather than just poking it harder with your finger.
