Free arrangement

Legato

Italian for “tied.” A directive to play without breaks between notes, smoothly connecting them.

Legato is an illusion on the piano because the sound decays instantly. To fake it, overlap the sound slightly—hold the first note until the split second the second note speaks. It’s a physical transfer of weight, not just hitting keys.
