Melody

A succession of pitches perceived by the mind as a unity. The “horizontal” aspect of music.

The Savvy Take

The melody is the King. Everything else (chords, rhythm, bass) exists to serve the King. If the accompaniment is drowning out the melody, you are committing treason.
