Free arrangement

Whole Step

An interval of two semitones (e.g., C to D). Also called a Whole Tone.

The Savvy Take

Whole steps feel “open” compared to the “closed” tension of half steps. The Whole Tone Scale (made entirely of whole steps) sounds dreamlike and floating because it lacks the tension of a leading tone.
